Beginner Dance Classes in Pittsburgh

Everything you need to know about starting West Coast Swing, Pittsburgh's most social and versatile partner dance.

    What is West Coast Swing?

West Coast Swing is a smooth, versatile partner dance that's danced to modern music, pop, R&B, blues, country, and more. Unlike ballroom dances with rigid patterns, West Coast Swing emphasizes connection, improvisation, and musical expression.

It originated on the West Coast of the United States and has grown into a thriving global community. Here in Pittsburgh, West Coast Swing is one of the most popular social dances, with weekly classes and social dancing every Monday night.

Whether you're 20 or 60, athletic or not, West Coast Swing is accessible to everyone. The dance is built on lead-follow connection, so once you learn the basics, you can dance with anyone, no choreography to memorize.

    Watch before you go

Watch it, don't read it. First: a regular social night — everyday people, every kind of music. Then two Jack & Jill finals: random partner, random song, nothing choreographed.
